2009 Fisher Lake Kids Derby

Wolf Pack sent it's Educational Guides and equipment to fish with the kids. Jiffy Ice Skimmer / chisels were handed out to every kid that participated in the derby!
Wolf Pack brought the luxurious Frabill R2-Tec Ice Shelter with padded seats and thermal frabric with Thinsulate and a Jiffy 2HP Stealth STX Pro ice drill that cut our holes effortlessly! We also had our Lowrance Ice Machine that we demonstrated at each hole -- showing kids how to track their bait, then watch fish come off the bottom, then BAM! Fish on.
We had a full complement of Frabill Ultra Ice Rods loaded in our Sit-n-Fish pales. We'd simply go from hole to hole and get the kids fishing!

These two ladies used the Frabill rod and Lowarance Ice Machine to locate the "bite".

Wolf Pack Youth Guide Emilio (11yrs old) explains the Lowarance graph, and the principals of using a graph while presenting a bait and finding fish!
Here Emilio baits the small jig with a "mousie" for this young lady particpant.

Wolf Pack Youth Guide Emilio spent time with this mother / son as this was their first exposure to ice fishing! He explained the Frabill rod, how to hold it, the jig we were using, the bait we put on, and how to use the Lowrance like a "video game" to find and catch fish! Emilio eventually moved the two over to the Frabill R2-Tec to further show them that ice fishing can be very comfortable! (Note the two Frabill Pro-Thermals in the background...eventually we had a flag)

Emilio going from hole to hole to answer questions and re-bait as needed.

This first time ice fisher-girl landed the winning 16" Northern (released). We had two Frabill Pro-Thermal Tip-ups set for Northerns. This Frabill did it's job and sucessfully introduced this young lady to the world of ice fishing!
Wolf Pack Youth Guide Emilio and Frabill Pro Thermal combined to give Cassie an ice fishing experience to remember!

Thanks to the efforts of the Commonwealth Sports Club, Franklin Trophies, the First National Bank of Niagara, and RMG Trucking all particpants received Trophies. The top three Kid's Derby winners also received a Savings Bond and cash! Here is the 3rd Place Winner (Perch).
2nd Place winner (Perch)

1st Place winner (Northern)

Look at the surprise on her face when she realizes she is also getting the Savings Bond and cash!
Way to go ladies! 1st, 2nd, 3rd. We enjoyed fishing with you.
This is the future generation of our outdoors.

Some other participants that got trophies for fishing in the kids derby...everyone wins! This is tomorrow's hope for the outdoor sports.
All these youth are embedding this fishing tradition into their memories. Thanks to the parents that bring them, thanks to the organizations that support them, and thanks to the community that nurtures them!
Boys, girls, it didn't matter the size or age...these kids gave it there all and were recognized for it.
This little lady waited patiently until she was called.....
....and with the sweetest "Thank You" she was now a winner!
Todd Patterson and Emilio take some time by the fire for hot chocolate and comraderie!

Todd and Sean -- Commonwealth Sportsmen Club and derby organizers. A great debt of gratitude goes out to you for spearheading events like this. Some people talk about the future of outdoor sports...you guys represent action for the future!
Well, folks, were all done. I thought you might like a glimpse at one local's resoucefulness in transporting his "ATV".
Saturday morning and the Wolf Pack was treated to a great breakfast at Barb's Cafe. HUUUGE breakfast sandwiches....held me 'till lunch.
Another supporter of the Wolf Pack mission during the Fisher Lake derby was Florence Spport and Bait!
I was amazed when I stepped inside and found the amount of hunting and fishing equipment.
They have hard water and soft water bait....jigs, line, and the equipment. Plus they have a good selection of live bait from minnows to waxies & spikes.

We stopped in to visit with our friends at Black Bear Inn. When you are in Florence, stop in and tell them Wolf Pack sent ya!
This year we were treated to dinner at Dina Mia's Supper Club. It's roomy inside and they have great food. We had the Friday Fish specials and loved them! The service is great and you feel welcome from the time you stop in!

Saturday we were treated to the Sirloin..... the steaks were large and had pefect marbling for tons of flavor! I've eaten steak from coast to coast and border to border...this steak's flavor tranked in the top 10 for me! Thank you for the awesome meal. Emilio says HI to Janese!
