"Tip-up! Flag! Bring the minnows!!" It's Ice Fishing time!

Lac Vieux Desert, winter weather, and the Wolf Pack!
Get a note pad, cup of coffee, and start the show!
We had 4 to 6 inches of ice in way Northern Wisconsin. Some slush existed on the top layer, but at night you could hear the ice grow.
We caught Northern and Walleye on large shiners and medium suckers. We caught perch and panfish on waxies, spikes, and crappie minnows. Some smaller Northern and a nice size Walleye were caught on waxies!!!!
The minnows were presented about a foot above the weedline. Good jigging and tip-up fishing throughout the day. Walleye heated up toward the evening into dark.

Captains Roy and Pat Kalmerton plan the trip as they ready to launch from the comfort of a cabin at Sunrise Lodge.
Wolf Pack prides itself on it's knowledge, trustworthy equipment, and safety. Dressed in layers, Pat is ready with his Jiffy Ice Drill, Ice chisel for "spudding" and a set of ice spikes (orange cylinders with string around his neck).
Pat sets out ahead of the group to go "spudding". With each thunderous strike of the chisel, Pat checks the thickness and quality of the ice. "Early ice" requires care and consideration!
Captain Roy has years of experience in the Wisconsin wilds. Safety is the primary concern for all he guides -- a quality passed on to his sons and crew! After a life-time of enforcing Fish & Game Laws, Roy has pure talent, dedication, and concern for his clients and the resource.
Pat "spudding" for the camera. With each blow comes a shower of ice like sparks in a foundry.
Now, down to the fishing! Using Frabill tip-ups, Pat shows this youngster the finer art of pulling in a fish through the ice.
Way to go! Northern Pike in hand!
Lac Vieux Desert placemat! Dinner anyone?
Folks, what you see here is a true triple header! "Flag.....another flag!....Hey, go get that flag!" These tip-ups are deployed in Wolf Pack "lines" across productive waters (ice) that the Pack is familiar with.

"You know, I think the kid is getting good at this!"

Dinner the Wolf Pack way. Great fishing and great food! Wolf Pack runs the finest equipment and the finest meats -- Miesfelds! That's right, straight from Sheboygan...we had great minute steaks and brat patties. All while watching for the tip-ups...what a combination!

This youngster was busy gobbling down his brat patty, when "TIP-UP" was called. SHEER EXCITEMENT broke out as he landed his FIRST walleye ever caught! A whopping 26" inches of Lac Vieux Desert dinner mint!

What a way to start a fishing career!

Father and son...dad's having this one mounted for his son!

"I want to personally thank the Wolf Pack and the guys that helped my son with his Walleye! We re-lived the catch a thousand times on the way home! At the hole, they coached my son, and when the fish made it's first appearance at the hole we all got excited, but each person had their role! When the fish finally came through the ice head first and they got their hands on it to pull it to the ice, we erupted! The excitement was overwhelming, the yells were solid, and the feeling of just winning the lottery was in the air"

This variety pack brought to you by -- Wolf Pack Adventures!
Ahhhh...Sunrise Lodge big breakfast and the thought of good ice fishing...it's not Church on Sunday, but it is heaven!
Captain Roy shows how easy the New Frabill Glide Trax pulls with all the gear (normally they'd be pulled by their Polaris, but the ice wasn't thick enough).
Wolf Pack guide using a Frabill jig stick gets a big surprise! 22" Walleye! You should have seen him "fight" the fish in the nine inch circle...he went round the hole keeping the line off the bottom of the ice. Kind'a like watching a rodeo clown keep a bull at bay.
Lac Vieux Desert serves up another memory. This Northern was caught during a run of at least four tip-ups going back to back... it was almost funny to have to zig-zag across the ice to get to the flags. The fish were spread out and didn't believe in striking adjacent tip-ups.

Although the Polaris was not put on the ice this trip due to ice conditions, Captain Roy shows how all the gear is packed and hauled like a paratrooper ready for war. Everything you need, accessible, and ready to roll!
Here Roy demonstrates the Lowrance attached to the Polaris. The pack can deploy a guide to drill, check for fish or structure, and move with speed! The key is having the proper tools and knowing how to use them effectively.
Close-up of Lowrance's Ice Machine. You can see your "see" your jig on the screen....then "watch" a fish track to your bait...then BAM! Fish on!

Frabill Glide Trax provides comfort and shelter for your party.

To sum it all up...the Wolf Pack is as dependable and reliable as their equipment. Quality is the Pack's hallmark. Believe it or not...everything you need for a quality adventure is in that trailer!
You can bet that this future generation will pass along his ice fishing lessons and "trophy" story for years to come!

Check out our Ice Fishing page for a great Ice Fishing Adventure. Whether you're an ol' pro or a "newbie" the pack not only provides a great trip for the value, but they teach you so that when you go by yourselves, you'll be enjoying the resource!

Come RUN with the PACK!

2006 Youth Muskie Weekend!!!

There was wind, snow, cold temperatures, and then some nice days as well. The weather was as diverse as the group that had come together...some to teach, some to catch Muskie for the first time, but all came to have a great time!
On famous Lac Vieux Desert Lake, Land O' Lakes, WI....at Sunrise Lodge!

47 anglers participated in this great event. Boys, girls, men, and women all came together to create the foundation of life long memories and traditions!

One of the major sponsors Jerry "the Weasel" Messman. It is through movers and shakers like Jerry that the future of outdoor skills is built. These two boys are holding some of Gander Mountain's Guide Series muskie gear...ready to be deployed with those big grins!

Among the participants were Mike Scholler, Amanda, ChuckStrysick, and Muskie Guide Patricia Strutz! Even with cold weather, that boat looks HOT!

Tyler and Don with 28 inches of "fast attack cruiser" Muskie! If you've ever wondered what a bear trap on the end of a fishes body would look like, go fish for Muskie!

The lodge..... it wasn't even Halloween yet, and that grass ain't white from old age. It snowed for the Muskie hunters.... and you can't even use it for tracking. But it sure does make the Sunrise Lodge more cozy. Let's go in, shall we?

Son....out of my way! This picture looks good enough to eat. Folks, the Sunrise Lodge has a great breakfast -- piles of pancakes,French toast, sausage, orange juice, bacon, eggs, syrup, coffee. What a way to live. The Youth Muskie weekend was supported by more than just sportsmen. Take the lodge for example... they extended their hospitality. In doing so they provided a platform for the youth to gather and start to know what "fish camp" feels like... I wouldn't forget a meal like this with great friends -- could you?

2006 Youth Muskie Weekend..... they didn't have to do it. This was about sportsmen and women, sponsors, volunteers, a body of water and boats, experts and in-the-field classes, time volunteered and time remembered. It's a formula for the youth, so when you "do the math" it adds up to some very large dividends!

Some day one of these kids may be giving a speech as a Conservation Warden or Professional Muskie guide, or be bent down on the end of a pier helping their small son or daughter cast for the first time.... and in their mind they'll always remember where it started!

Between the Lakes Muskie Inc chapter from Sheboygan, WI teamed up with 22 supporting sponsors donating financial support and products to make this a memorable experience. Youths were chosen in early August from an application process where they related participation in past outdoor experiences. They attended two evening educational sessions becoming familiar with identification of the muskie, their habitat, proper equipment to use, assessing weather situations for safety, reading maps and electronics to navigate a lake and find potential fishing spots & refreshing boating safety skills to ensure a safe memorable fishing adventure.

They had another evening session entailing hands-on casting for Muskie at pond-side. This adventure was made possible by a BTL member sharing their boat and expertise of the fall Muskie hunt with the youth and their chaperones. Each group took to the waters of Lac Viex Desert on Friday afternoon & Saturday to chase the King of fish, the muskie. They had state-of-the art muskie equipment and baits donated by sponsors. They used their newly found skills in navigating the waters and reading detailed maps and electronics to develop a plan to successfully hook into a muskie.

Each evening culminated with a camp fire circle to share their experiences of the day and to interact with local guide & Muskie expert Patricia Strutz on how to successfully fish the Muskie. Fish Management Technician Kiepke, from teh Woodruff area, talked about creel surveys, the importance of creel surveys, recovery of Muskie habitat, and catch & release fishing.

We encourage your assistance in putting out a "Turning Leaf Challenge" to other sportsmens' clubs to become involved in educating our future anglers in a most-enjoyable outdoor adventure.
This is just the second year of the muskie adventure, but by the enthusiasm it garners through both our members and the recipients we look forward to many more such adventures.

There are many other clubs and organizations that may be willing and able to jump onboard and TAKE A KID INTO THE OUTDOORS, and we encourage the media to challenge such organizations to partake in and support these youth outdoor education programs.

Eighty!!!!!!!!!!!! Eighty what?

Rita Sheldon, a Grandmother from Nebraska, traveled to the sunny shores of Lake Michigan to celebrate her 80th birthday on board The Wolf Pack!

Rita's fishing partners were her son Rick, her daughter Kathleen, and Kathleen's better half Dave Scribner. 80 years of life experience and Rita is out in the elements, granted in luxury, but still..... that is awe inspiring!

After a 5 mile run to the SE in 150 feet of water, Grandma reeled in 2 nice King Salmon, still using dodger-fly combos. Typical of the Sheboygan Area fishermen, the marine radios howled & cheered a ~~Happy Birthday~~~ as Rita watched the Frabill swing another Sliver beauty on to the deck. Rita is used to "wraslin" farm chores, so a King is nothing but pure fun!
Yup, Grandma left her tractor at home and took a day off from delivering calves, to watch a Lake Michigan sunrise while chasing Kings on her 80th birthday! Here's a celebrated person that spends her life providing for the bread basket of America... this catch is a token of Mother Nature's appreciation!

Rita and her "party" stand next to a Wolf Pack wind chime! "We are honored! 80 years of Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall... it's no wonder you've seen it all... you chose Wolf Pack to stand with and fish... and for that we pray that you get your birthday wish!" The Wolf Pack wishes Grandma Sheldon many more and we're glad we were a small part of the memories to follow.

Wolf Pack huntin' down the fish!

The Wolf Pack has been huntin' down the fish! Lots of "large torpedoes" netted, filleted, and then grilled! Served along with those fish are great helpings of smiles, fun, and lasting memories!

What a pair! Do the math, it works out --
Big smile, big fish, big memory!
You know, I think I have a recipe for each one of those!
One of many catches of a life time for this team!
Blue Harbor Resort is a perfect stop over after your trip with the Wolf Pack... kids can frolic in the water park while mom and dad relax in the hot tub!
We call this a Lake Michigan wind chime!
Big bait, big fish... way to go young lady, nicely done!
Five fish isn't a huge limit... unless it's five Lake Michigan fish!!!
Oooh-rah! Any Marine Corp commander would be proud of this catch...it's a platoon of fish!
Here we see the one of the squad leaders of the platoon.

Good catch fellas! Plenty of action for all on board!
Wolf Pack and Sheboygan Area fishing get a big thumbs-up! On behalf of the Wolf Pack, we'd like to thank all of you that have boarded and fished with us... and shared in the adventure!
