The combination of lower water levels and some scouting a few days ago made for a successful trip for these two anglers! If the Crappie were active, then the Small Mouth (Smallies) Bass were on the attack!
Smallies were plentiful.
Working the pockets of the river can yield some nice sized fish.
Here's a brute Smallie. With light tackle, these fish can be a blast!
Eventually the Crappie get into the act -- another great fighting fish on light tackle!
Now, the next set of pics are from scouting trips a couple of days in advance...and even a week prior as you will notice in the water level. We had spinning gear and fly gear. The most productive bait -- minnows.

Here is a nice Smallie...not that long, but definitely fat!
All the Northern Pike you see were released and the photos are not repeats...between the three of us we landed 20 Pike! What an afternoon...we did not get photos of all the Pike.
Even my son (Wolf Pack guide in training) practices his fly fishing techniques and lands a Red-Horse Sucker.
Another fish to add to the "Huh?" file.

Different trip, more Pike on crank baits. This is my wife's 1st of the day....
.....her 2nd.....
....and her 3rd... she knows how to pick the spots.
Knowing the river and your limits is the wise way to fish...the wife is in a safe spot despite the photo's appearance.
This Spring's weather has been odd at times, but there has been some productive days fishing!

The wife fights a fish on one of new flys she tied...but it spit the hook...darn it!
What do you do when the net is way over by your son....?
